Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan, Duncan James and Antony Costa are: Blue. The boys found in 2001 and rose to fame pretty much pronto with All Rise. Late in 2004, Elton John, with whom they were working together from 2004, suggested to split and focus on their respective solo careers.
Boys grown into men, they announced earlier this year they would reunite and are will be representing the UK in this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Germany.

Dana International (דנה אינטרנשיונל)

Sharon Cohen (שרון כהן), a.k.a. Dana International (דנה אינטרנשיונל) was born as Yaron Cohen, on 2 Feb 1972 in Tel Aviv, being of Yemenite Jewish and Romanian/Transsylvanian ancestry.
Though born a boy, Dana came out as transsexual at the age of 13. She wanted to become a singer ever since she was eight years old and saw legendary Israeli singer Ofra Haza performing her song 'Chai' in the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest. Although the family was quite poor, her mother worked to pay for her music lessons, and she has explained that her childhood was rather happy. The stage name she adopted, Dana, is the female version of Daniel, the name of her best friend Daniel, who died in a car accident and who had prophesied that she would someday have a successful singing career.

At the age of 18, Dana was still legally male, earned a living as Israel's first Drag Queen parodying many famous singers and women. During one of her performances, she was discovered by Offer Nissim, a well-known Israeli DJ, who produced her debut single 'Saida Sultana' ('My Name is Not Saida'), a satirical version of Whitney Houston's song 'My Name Is Not Susan'. The song received considerable airplay and launched her career as a professional singer.
In 1993, Dana flew to London for her sex reassignment surgery and legally changed her name to Sharon. Returning home she released her first album in Israel, where it reached Gold, and soon after, the album was also released in several other countries including Greece, Jordan and Egypt. In 1994 Dana released her second, Trance-influenced album Umpatampa, which built on the success of her debut and provided further hit singles. The album went platinum in Israel and has sold more than 50,000 copies to date. Because of her popularity and the success of this album, she won the award for Best Female Artist of the Year in Israel.
Dana may have failed to qualify for the final representing Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Germany, but then again she did win the entire thing already in 1998 with 172 points, when the contest was held in Birmingham, UK with 'Diva'. It is Dana's achievement that she took her success from back then and managed to change Israel's ultra-orthodox Jewish culture to a much more liberal one. Interviewed by CNN, BBC, Sky News and MTV among others mostly focusing on her life as a transsexual person before winning the contest, Dana's words were: 'My victory proves God is on my side. I want to send my critics (i.e.the Ultra-Orthodox Jews whom tried to void her 1998 performance) message of forgiveness and say to them: try to accept me and the kind of life I lead. I am what I am and this does not mean I don't believe in God, and I am part of the Jewish Nation'. Dana released 'Diva' as a single in Europe, reaching the Top 10 in many countries. Dana was about to sign with major Sony/BMG for an international recording contract, but something went wrong in negotiations. These were disagreements that led to Sony canceling the deal before it was completed. In 2003, she released a house version of Cinque Milla, and four years later, achieved regional success with Love Boy.

Made By Monkeys might seem like a weird stage name to record under, but the duo of Astrochimp and M Keys has the musical chops to call themselves whatever they like and get away with it. Both met at school at a very early age and have been producing music ever since. Astrochimp handles the drum programming, mixing and engineering and M Keys is the keyboard prodigy who wrote his first composition at the age of five.
'I Try' was their first foray into the world of dance music that accounts for the truly fresh take on club music they have devised. The track debuted at US(Dance)#1 in May of 2003 and continued to chart on the top 50 for 26 weeks, making it the longest charting track of the year for club play. 'I Try' was heavily supported by international DJs like Paul Oakenfold, Sasha & Digweed, Pete Tong and Steve Lawler. The track was introduced by Peter Rauhofer on Live@Roxy2 CD (where I pricked up my ears) and was featured on Ministry Of Sound Annual 2004. The Monkeys have a live explosive performance much like Daft Punk, and the Chemical Brothers that must be seen.

The Underdog Project - Summer Jam (2000,'03 &'10)

The Underdog Project has four members: Vic Krishna, Craig Smart (both vocals), DJ Frank (remixes) and AJ Duncan (keyboards). They formed when Vic was visiting Germany and had a jam session with his fellow-Canadian Craig, which went well, so they started recording - mostly demo tapes, but also full-fledged tracks.

The band's most popular track, 'Summer Jam' was one of the biggest pop hits in Europe. At one point, the original released in Germany in November 2000, was on the rotation list of every pop radio station in the country. It also received much attention in the UK and the US, where it was released the year after. MTV Germany and VIVA, a local rival music TV channel at the time, both supported the video, adding even more exposure. The biggest dance radio station in New York City, WKTU, also expressed support for the record and added it to their playlist, as well as market leader Power 96 in Miami.

The track was re-released several times, and features on pretty much every Summer Song Compilation there is.
Most notable was the 2003 version versus the Sunclub, which reached #1 the Dutch and Belgian charts, as well as climbing into the Top20 of several other countries.

Luomo - Tessio (2003)

Sasu Ripatti, born 1976 in Oulu, Finland, has many aliases: Vladislav Delay, Sistol, Conoco and - Luomo.
Sasu's characteristic traits within his music are deep, bubbling synth-bass lines, fractured percussion - often placed freely within the music, long delay repetitions of various sounds, syncopated use of vocal samples, and complicated digital effect processing techniques. An outstanding example is his 2003 release 'Tessio'.

The music of Luomo stretches taut lines between shadowy experimentalism and shining club aspirations of the dancefloor. Full of dark chasms and dangerous sharp edges, the restless experimentation and bitter-tenderness in Luomo’s songs have shattered and reformed expectations of Pop. Tracks like 'Tessio' became the foundation of what was soon known as Microhouse.
But the tropes and vocals made it clear that Sasu is drawing on a wider range of influences: not only Glitch, but also Dub, Trip-Hop, Chicago House, Soul and Disco. Luomo presents each element — icy reverb, stuttering rhythms and brittle synth stabs with crossover Pop appeal that was picked up by major labels.

What makes Luomo different from his other release synonyms, aside from a more overt Pop orientation, is the extensive, sensitive use of vocal samples from a variety of collaborators: all Luomo albums owe much to processed feminine voices, particularly that of Finnish jazz singer Johanna Iivanainen, a vocalist renowned for her timbral and poetic singing. Pensive and polished, rich and sensual, 'The Present Lover', which is the album containing 'Tessio', uses the voice of Johanna Iivanainen, along with that of Antye Greie (AGF), his East German girlfriend.
His creative arrangements have also come to fruition in his fourth Luomo album, 'Convivial' in 2008. It sees Luomo at his most upfront and extrovert, embracing more overt Pop motives than ever, and features vocal collaborations with not only Iivanainen, but a spectrum of artists, ranging from Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters, which offers a touch of glam, to Chicago House producer Robert Owens. A new Luomo album is due to be released! :-)

Edyta (Górniak) - Impossible (2003)

Edyta Górniak is one of the most popular female singers in Polish pop music. Perhaps a bit over-optimistic, but she is being hailed as the next big international female singer. Described as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion all rolled into one, the singer has already had huge success outside Poland in countries such as Japan, Norway, Switzerland, Portugal and South Africa.

In 1994 Edyta was the first Polish artist to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994, in which she claimed a highly credible second place, which still stands as Poland's best showing in the contest. Her song was 'To nie ja' (That's Not Me), which was also released in English as 'Once In A Lifetime'. It proved to be her breakthrough in Poland, becoming there the biggest hit of the year 1994. Her first studio album The Touch released year later has moved half a million units only in Poland, bringing eponymous hit 'Dotyk'. In 1996 she signed a contract with EMI International in London for recording of five albums.
Edyta released her first English album a year later, in association with the producer Chris Neil, responsible for international success of Celine Dion. The singles 'When You Come Back To Me' and 'One & One' followed.
In 2002 she was signed to Virgin Germany. The album Invisible had international premiere. It was produced by team Absolute responsible for success of Spice Girls and containing club hit 'Impossible'.
To this day, Edyta has sold over 1 million albums in Poland alone. The readers of Maxim magazine have voted her their most beautiful international cover girl.

How Soon Is Now?

'How Soon Is Now' was written by Johnny Marr one afternoon in June 1984. Johnny posted a rough demo of the track in the mail to Morrissey. The following morning Morrissey arrived and laid down his vocals, culling lyrics from various works in progress in his notebook in the process. According to John Porter, their producer at Rough Trade records, he completed his vocals in two takes.
The song contains only one verse which is repeated twice, plus a chorus and a bridge. The story is about someone who can't quite deal with his shyness. Two lines of the lyrics are well known in pop culture:

'I am the son, and the heir, of a shyness that is criminally vulgar. I am the son and heir, of nothing in particular' and the chorus: 'I am human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does'.
During recording, Johnny created an oscillating guitar effect that plays throughout the song. After a break, they added a few overdubs to the track, including a slide guitar part that gave the song real tension.
When Rough Trade owner Geoff Travis first heard the track, he felt it was too unrepresentative of The Smiths' sound to be released as a standalone single in it's own right. Despite pressure from John Porter to save the song for a later single release as an A-side, 'How Soon Is Now?' was included as B-side on the 12" single release of 'William, It Was Really Nothing' in August 1984. John's thoughts were 'They totally threw it away, wasted it'. But almost immediately night-time British radio picked up on the song, and by autumn it had become the most-requested track. Thus, it was subsequently included on The Smiths' compilation album Hatful of Hollow, released at the end of the year.
Due to the popularty, Rough Trade decided to re-released it as an A-side in the UK in January 1985. The 12" vinyl included a new instrumental track, 'Oscillate Wildly'. Although the track was considered something of a Smiths' classic by now, the re-release only managed to rise to UK#24, probably because everybody already had it.
Following the acquisition of the Rough Trade catalogue by Warner Bros. 'How Soon Is Now?' was issued - again - as a single in the UK in September 1992, which reached UK#16.

The track was covered numerous times, in the spectrum of musical genres ranging from metal-like versions (Quicksand & Meatmen) to out-right pop (t.A.T.u). Some of the versions were used as theme by TV programme Charmed. The famous guitar-riff was also sampled by Soho, under endorsement by The Smiths'. All of the version to find here. Enjoy :-)

Ben Onono

Ben was born in Cardiff, Wales, but bred in West Africa, he is a uniquely talented musician. Ben has written for artists as diverse as Cicada, Bob Sinclair, Fatboy Slim and Natalie Imbruglia. His dance tracks have received DJ support from both sides of the Atlantic and have been regular floor fillers for DJs ranging from Pete Tong to Joe Claussel. He has worked with the likes of Futureshock and Saffron Hill and his debut album was used for the BBC series The Long Way Down.

Kim Wilde

I first heard of Kim at the tender age of 9, when my twelve year older sister blasted Kids in America through our flat, jumping up and down. It was fun bouncing around the house with her. More aware I became of Kim at the release of her 1988 album 'Close' - having just proudly invested all the money I received from family and relatives for the 'Jugendweihe' (the 'Coming of Age' celebrations as a youngster in East Germany) - in my first Stereo Cassette Recorder.
Back then western media (music and TV) was prohibited from consuming, being classified as 'capitalist smut' - seriously... - but a brave Radio Station in Berlin called 'DT64' which was aimed at the younger generation was testing the communist gouvernment's limits by airing a complete album of a popular artist each weekend. One of them was Kim Wilde's 'Close'.

Kim Smith, a.k.a, Kim Wilde, daughter of 1950s Rock'n'Roller Reginald Smith, a.k.a. Marty Wilde, and Joyce Baker of The Vernons Girls, is a London girl, being born on 18 Nov 1960 in Chiswick. She attended Oakfield Prep School in Dulwich (woo-hoo, she's a neighbour! :-) before moving with her family to Hertfordshire, and completing a foundation course at St. Albans College of Art & Design in 1980. That year Kim was signed to RAK Records. She burst onto the music scene in 1981 with the New Wave classic 'Kids in America', which her brother, Ricky Smith, a.k.a Ricky Wilde, wrote for her in his bedroom. Kim shot to instant fame, particulary in continental Europe, while success in the US was largely subdued. Several successful single releases followed.
Failure of her 1983 Album Catch As Catch Can led to her leaving RAK Records and her being signed to MCA Records, where her career re-ignited with the 1984 album Teases and Dares.
Kim Wilde holds the record for being the most-charted British solo female act of the 1980s, with seventeen UK Top 40 singles. In France, she was known as the 'Brigitte Bardot of Rock' and her song 'Cambodia' sold over a million copies. A number of artists have performed covers of Kim Wilde songs, ranging from pop and rock to dance and death metal versions.
Having married and giving birth to children, Kim switched down a gear in her life, becoming a reconised Landscape Gardener. While her brother also choe the same route, her sister Roxanne is currently background singer for Kylie Minogue.
In 2010, Kim signed a new record deal with another label called Starwatch who released her eleventh studio album, 'Come Out and Play'.
