Maurice Jarre - Lara's Theme - Dr.Zhivago (1965)

Born 23 Sep 1924 in Lyon, France, Maurice Jarre is probably best known for his film music although he also wrote numerous concert pieces. Composing the soundtracks to all of David Lean's films, his catalogue includes such classic pieces as Lawrence of Arabia (1962), A Passage to India (1984), Ghost (1990) and - ahem - Lara's Theme (1965) for Dr. Zhivago. Three of his compositions spent a total of 42 weeks on the U.K. singles chart, the biggest being 'Somewhere My Love' (to his tune Lara's Theme, with lyrics by Paul Francis Webster) by the Michael Sammes Singers.
He was a three time Academy Award winner and nominated for an Oscar eight times.
He died on 28 March 2009 in Los Angeles, California, where he is honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
