Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg - Je T'aime (1969)

'Je T'aime,...Moi Non Plus' is a - if not THE - classic French duet. It was written for and recorded with Serge Gainsbourg's then-girlfriend, Brigitte Bardot, in winter 1967. Brigitte asked him to write the most beautiful love song he could imagine and that night he wrote 'Je t'aime'. They recorded an arrangement by Michel Colombier at a Paris studio in a two-hour session in a small glass booth; the engineer William Flageollet said there was 'heavy petting' involved. But news of the recording reached the press and Brigitte's then-husband (yes, it appeared to be a very liberal interpretation of 'free love' back then), German businessman Gunter Sachs, was angry and called for the single to be withdrawn. Brigitte pleaded with Serge not to release it, and although he protested that 'The music is very pure. For the first time in my life, I write a love song and it's taken badly', he complied.
In 1968, Serge fell in love with English actress Jane Birkin on the set of their film 'Slogan'. After filming, he asked her to record the song with him. Jane had heard Brigitte's version and thought it hot. She said:' only sang it because I didn't want anybody else to sing it', jealous at the thought of his sharing a recording studio with someone else. Serge asked her to sing an octave higher than la B.B. It was recorded in an arrangement by Arthur Greenslade in a studio at Marble Arch. Jane said she 'got a bit carried away with the heavy breathing – so much so, in fact, that I was told to calm down, which meant that at one point I stopped breathing altogether. If you listen to the record now, you can still hear that little gap'.
There was media speculation, as with the Brigitte Bardot version, that they had recorded live sex, to which Serge told Jane: 'Thank goodness it wasn't, otherwise I hope it would have been a long-playing record'. The track was released in February 1969. The single had a plain cover, with the words 'Interdit aux moins de 21 ans' (forbidden to those under 21) - perhaps a predecessor of the modern-day 'Adult Guidance'. Brigitte Bardot regretted not releasing her version, and her friend Jean-Louis Remilleux persuaded her to contact Serge - they released it in 1986. The song has since been covered by many different artists, but obviously has never reached the original...

French Lyrics with English translation:

Je t'aime, je t'aime
oh, oui je t'aime!
moi non plus
oh, mon amour...
comme la vague irrésolu
je vais, je vais et je viens
entre tes reins
je vais et je viens
entre tes reins*
et je me retiens

I love you, I love you
Oh, yes I love you!
No longer me
Oh, my love…
Like the undecided wave
I go, I go and I come
Between your back
I go and I come
Between your back
And I hold back.

je t'aime, je t'aime
oh, oui je t'aime!
moi non plus
oh mon amour...
tu es la vague, moi l'île nue
tu va, tu va et tu viens
entre mes reins
tu vas et tu viens
entre mes reins
et je te rejoins

I love you, I love you
Oh, yes I love you!
no longer me
Oh, my love…
You are the wave, I’m the naked island
You go, you go and you come
Between my back
You go and you come
Between my back
And I rejoin you.

je t'aime, je t'aime
oh, oui je t'aime!
moi non plus
oh, mon amour...
comme la vague irrésolu
je vais, je vais et je viens
entre tes reins
je vais et je viens
entre tes reins

Between your back
And I hold back.

You go, you go and you come
Between my back
You go and you come
Between my back
And I rejoin you.

je t'aime, je t'aime
oh, oui je t'aime!
moi non plus
oh mon amour...
l'amour physique est sans issue
je vais, je vais et je viens
entre tes reins
je vais et je viens
et je me retiens
Non! Maintenant viens!

I love you, I love you
Oh, yes I love you!
No longer me
Oh, my love…
The physical love is without a way out
I go, I go and I come
Between your back
I go and I come back
And I hold back
No! Now come!

Cock Robin (1985-1987)

Named after a 17th century story titled 'The Marriage of Cock Robin and Jenny Wren', Peter Kingsbery, Anna LaCazio, Clive Wright and Lou Molino III formed the band in California in 1982 and were signed to CBS Records.
Cock Robin's 1985 self-titled debut album was largely ignored in their native country, as with the majority of their output, but it was an overnight success in Europe, where the singles 'When Your Heart Is Weak' and 'The Promise You Made' became big hits. 'When Your Heart Is Weak' was the band's only chart single in the US. It also became a radio favorite in South Africa.
Two years later the band, reduced from the original quartet to the duo of Peter Kingsbery and Anna LaCazio, released a second album, After Here Through Midland. As with their debut, Cock Robin's second album attracted much attention in continental Europe, and also scored hits with the singles 'Just Around the Corner' and 'The Biggest Fool of All'.
In 1989, they released a their third album, First Love/Last Rites, and, as with their previous releases, the LP fared well in mainland Europe, but, due to poor management and promotion, failed to make an impact in the USA. The duo went their separate ways shortly after the release of the album and a European Tour, with Kingsbery releasing a string of solo projects in France, most notably a hit single 'Only the Very Best', recorded for the Michel Berger & Luc Plamandon concept musical album 'Tycoon', with English lyrics by Tim Rice in 1992. Anna LaCazio recorded her own solo album Eat Life circa 1992-93 but it was only officially released in its entirety for download in 2009.
The duo reformed in 2006, releasing another two albums, mainly noted in France.

Lyrics:

What's the matter with the way we look?
Surely it's not the end
I only meant to make my motions clear
You worry too much if it's understood
Should we be seen as friends?
Seems like a real good beginning right here

'Cause when your heart is weak
I'm gonna pick the lock on it
My fingertips won't fail me
No matter what you do
The love you cannot see yet
Is about to witness a dawning
And you can twist and turn
But you won't get loose

Better forget getting rid of me
I don't see how you can
You put me off and I will hunt you
down...again
I'm mighty patient when I have to be
You have given me that
Still I look forward to the day you let me in
'Cause when your heart is weak
I'm gonna pick the lock on it
My fingertips won't fail me
No matter what you do
The love you cannot see yet
Is about to witness a dawning
And you can twist and turn
But you won't get loose
I'm gonna prove myself worthy
No more just hanging on
Without a prayer of a chance
I'm gonna come without warning
when your defenses are down and you're in
a desperate need
Oh, I bet you you then, you'll welcome me...
Your ol' companion
Your ol' companion
Remember baby,
'Cause when your heart is weak
I'm gonna pick the the lock on it
And you can twist and turn
But you won't get, you won't get
No you won't get loose
Oh no

Lyrics:

If I laid down my love
To come to your defense
Would you worry for me
With a pain in your chest?
Could I rely on your faith to be strong
To picked me back up and to push me along?
Tell me
You'll be there in my hour of need
You won't turn me away
Help me out of the life I lead
Remember the promise you made
Remember the promise you made
If I gave you my soul
For a piece of your mind
Would you carry me with you
To the far edge of time?
Could you understand if you found me untrue
Would we become one, or divided in two
Please tell me
You'll be there in my hour of need
You won't turn me away
Help me out of the life I lead
Remember the promise you made
Remember the promise you made
Could I rely on your faith to be strong
To pick me back up and to push me along
Please tell me
You'll be there in my hour of need

Lyrics:

Come ease my mind
For my prayers have not been answered in a long time

Things aren't quite as they seem inside my domain
You can't know about everything, only pleasure and pain
You wonder why I come here with head to my hands
Where else can I be cured and the king of your mansion
A thorn in your side
And a child to protect that claims he's free

Just around the corner, half a mile to heaven
Strong enough to hold you, starved for some affection
Darling come quickly, come ease my mind
For my prayers have not been answered in a long time

I've already made my bed, like it or not
As long as there's no regrets, I'll be here when the ride stops
These comforts to me
And these crosses to bear with which we live

Just around the corner, half a mile to heaven
Strong enough to hold you, starved for some affection
Baby, I can't drag you into this mess

I'm the thorn in your side and the child to protect
Yes, yes I'm

Just around the comer, half a mile to heaven
Strong enough to hold you, starved for some affection
Darling come quickly, come ease my worried mind
For my prayers have not been answered in a long time

Just around the comer
Strong enough to hold you
Half a mile to heaven
Just around the comer

Cock Robin - The Biggest Fool Of All
FR#47, DE#50

Lyrics:

My excuse is only human
Like any animal that breathes
Just to find a scent that's soothing
I give you power over me
I'm more weak than strong
And not a stranger to a fall
But I won't leave you till I turn to find you gone
I'm the biggest fool of all
But, I'm the biggest fool of all
There's no path of least resistance
It's a fable that you've heard
Any love that lacks conviction
Is gonna grovel in the dirt, yes it is
God this road is long
And surrounded by a wall
But I won't leave you till I turn to find you gone
I'm the biggest fool of all
I'm the biggest fool of all
I'm the biggest fool of all
Foolish as the prisoner
That listens for the jangling keys
And smart enough to know
That it's crazy I should run
When you've got no claim on me
So before your panic taunts you
To make relations disappear
You could help to ease my conscience
If just for once by standing here
I'm more weak than strong
And surrounded by a wall
But I won't leave you till I turn to find you
But I won't leave you till I turn to find you
But I won't leave you till I turn to find you
But I won't leave you till I turn to find you gone
I'm the biggest fool of all
Oh, yes I am
I'm the biggest fool of all
Oh yeah
I'm the biggest fool of all
Oh, I am
I'm the biggest fool of all
Oh, I am
I'm the biggest fool of all

Hermans Hermits - No Milk Today (1966)

Herman's Hermits - No Milk Today (1966)

Lyrics:

No milk today my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlon a symbol of the dawn
No milk today it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of all my hopes the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen
No milk today it wasn't always so
The company was gay we turn'd night into day

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two up to down

No milk today it wasn't always so
The company was gay we turn'd night into day
As music played the faster did we dance
We felt it both at once the start of our romance

How could they know just what this message means
The end of all my hopes the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen
No milk today my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlon a symbol of the dawn

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two up to down

No milk today my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlon a symbol of the dawn
No milk today it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of all my hopes the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen
No milk today it wasn't always so
The company was gay we turn'd night into day

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
But all that's left is a place dark and lonely

Mylene Farmer

There is so much to say about Mylène Jeanne Gautier, a.k.a Mylène Farmer, born in 1961 in Pierrefonds, Quebec, Canada, that it is hard to narrate.

One thing is for sure: after discovering her tofit my musical taste, I would like to thank my friends Gwen, Florence and Laurent for introducing me to more of her work and making possible for me to attend the best live concert I have ever been to.

Mylène has sold more than 25 million records and is among the most successful recording artists of all time in France, so far landing ten #1s, which constitutes a record in the French Charts.
Her parents moved from France in the late 1950s as her father pursued an engineering contract on a dam. The family returned to France when she was eight, settling in the Parisian suburb of Ville d'Avray. At the age of 17 she discovered acting and took a course at a drama school in Paris. Changing her name to Mylène Farmer as a tribute to her idol, 1930s Hollywood actress Frances Farmer, she began to earn a living as a model acting in several TV ads. In 1984, Mylène met Laurent Boutonnat, a young film student, after replying to a newspaper ad for an actress for a small film he was working on. They became friends and forged a creative partnership, writing and producing the music. Boutonnat, whose ambition was to become a film director, was the force behind Mylène’s videos, which, as you will see, often become epic pieces.
Mylène gained fame with songs featuring shocking yet poetic lyrics, and explicit music videos: 'Maman a tort' was about the love of a young girl for her female hospital nurse. 'Pourvu qu'elles soient douces' contains hints of sodomy: the video, set in the 18th century, featured a caning. 'Libertine' is said to feature the first full frontal nudity appearance by a singer on a major music video. 'Que mon cœur lâche' was about love with condoms in the age of AIDS: the video for the song features a scene in which God tells Jesus he will not send him to Earth again because the last time 'it was a disaster'.
By the turn of the decade Farmer was a full-blown superstar in France, but it wasn't until the release of her third album, L'Autre..., and single 'Désenchantée' that she became iconic. The album's lead single, became a phenomenon in French pop music, striking a universal chord with its political lyrics. The song debuted at #12 in France and hit #1 two weeks later, remaining 9 weeks atop of the charts. Following the phenomenal success of 'Désenchantée', Mylène released three more singles from the album: 'Regrets', 'Je t'aime mélancolie' and 'Beyond My Control', the latter having a blood-and-sex-charged video that was banned from airplay. The success of the singles helped its album sell close to 2 million copies in France alone, having achieved Diamond status in 1992. It spent a then-record 20 weeks at #1 of the French charts, as well as topping the chart in Belgium and making top 10 in Canada. It has become Farmer's best selling studio album. On 14 November 1991 a man, who had been stalking her, entered the Polydor Records HQ in Paris and held employees at gunpoint demanding to talk to her. The man had previously written the singer some fan mail, which she did not respond to. He killed a receptionist and committed suicide. Following this occurrence Mylène shunned media attention and left France to live in Los Angeles for a few weeks.
During her time in California, Mylène started to write her fourth album, Anamorphosée, before inviting Laurent Boutonnat over there to reconcile after the bitter incidents of 1994 and to start making music together again. In summer 1996 she embarked on her second, hugely successful, concert tour, which I was lucky enough to see at Paris Bercy, the French equivalent to Wembley. The corresponding live album, is currently the best-selling French live album ever. Mylène Farmer's Discography

Q: What have Alizée Jacotey, known as Alizée, and Napoleon Bonaparte in common?
A: Both were born on Corsica.

Alizée was discovered by Mylène Farmer, following her winning performance in the talent show 'Graines de Star' in 1999. While collaborating with Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat, Alizée released four studio albums - first two of which were composed by Laurent Boutonnat and written by Mylène Farmer. Her first album received Platinum within three months of release. It was a success both in France and abroad, earning Alizée the distinction of being the highest selling female French singer in 2001.
The album featured her most successful single 'Moi... Lolita', which reached number one in several countries in Europe and East Asia.
Alizée married fellow French singer Jérémy Chatelain in late 2003. Her latest album, entitled 'Une Enfant Du Siècle' was released in March 2010 and showcases her new mature persona, while distancing herself from her earlier Lolita figure.

I Will Be There

for one moment i was on and the next off
sometimes i felt sorry plus laughed sometimes haha
my mood which has resulted because of my anger is terrible
it is easy to say yet be in my shoes to understand how much i missed you
what kind of countdown this is, to never count the days down
i should get on the car and get there
these last 3 days feels like 300000 years for me
we will sleep, wake up, sleep, wake up, sleep, wake up
and hooop there, i will be
the mountains, the slopes, long roads are all nonsense, i'm on the run
don't get me started with the traditions, this is love, stronger than anything, i won't be silent!
i will get over it, i will beat the seperation, i am not afraid

as of 23 Aug 2013: UK#10, IRL#42

Lyrics:

Verse 1: Matt Cardle
Leave your door open,
I wanna come over
The night is only young
I wanna get under your body
Take you over, come undone

Pre-Chorus:
But why do we only give it up?
Give it up in the dark
Cause I can’t help thinking
It’s not enough,
It’s not enough for this heart

Chorus:
Who do you think about when I’m not with you?
Does somebody hold you when you let me go?
You can’t hide, you can’t lie
Cause baby I’m loving, loving, loving you
I could tell myself that I don’t need you
I could try to run away from the truth
I can’t hide, I can’t lie
Cause baby I’m loving, loving, loving you

Verse 2: Melanie C
My door is open
Come on over, the night is still young
I wanna get over your body
Take you under, come undone

Pre-Chorus:
But why do we only give it up?
Give it up in the dark
Cause I can’t help thinking
It’s not enough,
It’s not enough for this heart

Chorus:
Who do you think about when I’m not with you?
Does somebody hold you when you let me go?
You can’t hide, you can’t lie
Cause baby I’m loving, loving, loving you

Cause baby I’m loving, loving, loving you

Matt Cardle & Melanie C:
Would it change if I asked you to stay?
If I pulled, would it Wush you away?
But it’s just the chance I’ll take
Cause I want your loving

Chorus:
Who do you think about when I’m not with you?
Does somebody hold you when you let me go?
You can’t hide, you can’t lie
Cause baby I’m loving, loving, loving you
I could tell myself that I don’t need you
I could try to run away from the truth
I can’t hide, I can’t lie
Cause baby I’m loving, loving, loving you
Baby I’m loving, loving, loving you
Baby I’m loving, loving, loving you

Lyrics:

This is going out to anybody
who might be able to relate to..
what I am gonna do,
you've had to put up with all the lying,
cheating, back stabbin',
so many years...
and too many tears,
but i realised,
I didn't have to suffer like this no more,
'Cause I'm stronger now,
Stronger on my Own!
Yeah, you can't hurt me boy,
nah no, noooo baby,
'Cause I'm stronger on my own,

you wanna go it alone,
or go lonely,
y'see you let me down so many times before,
but right here in my mind,
you are the only, the only one i love
but i showed you the door,
If you could see me now,
and what i was back then,
you'd swear i was a different girl,
oh, believe me boy,
I had to make a choice,
no more would you destroy my world,

No more that i can take
don't need to serve this dish you made,
'Cause I'm stronger on my own,
I'm stronger on my own,
right now i see,
just where i wanna be,
and it's better on my own
I'm stronger on my own

No more that i can take
don't need to serve this dish you made,
'Cause I'm stronger on my own,
I'm stronger on my own,
'Cause right now i see,
just where i wanna be,
'Cause it's better on my own
I'm stronger on my own....

Dana International (דנה אינטרנשיונל)

Sharon Cohen (שרון כהן), a.k.a. Dana International (דנה אינטרנשיונל) was born as Yaron Cohen, on 2 Feb 1972 in Tel Aviv, being of Yemenite Jewish and Romanian/Transsylvanian ancestry.
Though born a boy, Dana came out as transsexual at the age of 13. She wanted to become a singer ever since she was eight years old and saw legendary Israeli singer Ofra Haza performing her song 'Chai' in the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest. Although the family was quite poor, her mother worked to pay for her music lessons, and she has explained that her childhood was rather happy. The stage name she adopted, Dana, is the female version of Daniel, the name of her best friend Daniel, who died in a car accident and who had prophesied that she would someday have a successful singing career.
At the age of 18, Dana was still legally male, earned a living as Israel's first Drag Queen parodying many famous singers and women. During one of her performances, she was discovered by Offer Nissim, a well-known Israeli DJ, who produced her debut single 'Saida Sultana' ('My Name is Not Saida'), a satirical version of Whitney Houston's song 'My Name Is Not Susan'. The song received considerable airplay and launched her career as a professional singer.
In 1993, Dana flew to London for her sex reassignment surgery and legally changed her name to Sharon. Returning home she released her first album in Israel, where it reached Gold, and soon after, the album was also released in several other countries including Greece, Jordan and Egypt. In 1994 Dana released her second, Trance-influenced album Umpatampa, which built on the success of her debut and provided further hit singles. The album went platinum in Israel and has sold more than 50,000 copies to date. Because of her popularity and the success of this album, she won the award for Best Female Artist of the Year in Israel.
Dana may have failed to qualify for the final representing Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Germany, but then again she did win the entire thing already in 1998 with 172 points, when the contest was held in Birmingham, UK with 'Diva'. It is Dana's achievement that she took her success from back then and managed to change Israel's ultra-orthodox Jewish culture to a much more liberal one. Interviewed by CNN, BBC, Sky News and MTV among others mostly focusing on her life as a transsexual person before winning the contest, Dana's words were: 'My victory proves God is on my side. I want to send my critics (i.e.the Ultra-Orthodox Jews whom tried to void her 1998 performance) message of forgiveness and say to them: try to accept me and the kind of life I lead. I am what I am and this does not mean I don't believe in God, and I am part of the Jewish Nation'. Dana released 'Diva' as a single in Europe, reaching the Top 10 in many countries. Dana was about to sign with major Sony/BMG for an international recording contract, but something went wrong in negotiations. These were disagreements that led to Sony canceling the deal before it was completed. In 2003, she released a house version of Cinque Milla, and four years later, achieved regional success with Love Boy.

When she laughs
she's a devil
She is all beauty and love

Viva Maria

Silent tears
drop from these eyes tonight
Tears of prayer

English Translation:

Six-pack in a chocolate colour
He says France but more likely Morocco
All day in the gym
Then it's not necessary to check his honesty

He's not proficient in words
He speaks with his hands
He's burning with his eyes
When he says, "let's go"
My heart dances in circles

And he sleeps in my bed
And he eats from my plate
I have a permanent trick
Twice a week
I have a love boy

He's not sensitive and not romantic
It doesn't make a difference if he's in favour or against
He doesn't need to know a lot
He's a doctor of honor in how to touch
I don't need to impress
Or be entertaining
Because I know
When he will tell me 'let's go'
My heart will dance in circles

Ssion - Luvvbazaar (2007)

The Ssion, also known as SSION, (pronounced "shun") is a musical group formed in 1996, in Kansas City, by vocalist Cody Critcheloe. Lyrics:

A love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love bazzar, a love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love baz-zar
A love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love bazzar, a love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love baz-zar

Taken by the pulse of a fleeting sensation
Eyes go red with the sights of temptation
Whatever you want at the tip of your finger
This love won't last but it's gonna linger
Dance goods inside and out
Looking for love in the shadow of doubt
Dance goods won't get you far
Looking for love in a love bazzar

A love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love bazzar, a love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love baz-zar
A love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love bazzar, a love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love baz-zar

On and on, all over floor to ceiling
Rolling in another faded feeling
Take no mistake, make the connection
Whatever you want, no limited selection

Dance goods won't get you far
Looking for love in a love bazzar
Dance goods inside and out
Looking for love in the shadow of doubt

Dance goods forever right now
Looking for love within or without

Go get it, you know you've got something
Go give it, go give it away
Go give it, you know you've got something, go give it away

A love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love bazzar, a love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love baz-zar
A love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love bazzar, a love bazzar, a lu-lu-lu-love baz-zar

Going through a love bazaar,
I never where you are
Going through a love bazaar
You never ever get too far
Going through a love bazaar
I never know where you...
Too far

Bellatrax & Sophie May - I Can't Help Myself (2007)

DJ, songwriter & producer Chris Dececio created the Bellatrax project in the summer of 2006 after being asked to do a credible UK house remix of 'Whatever' by Ferry Corsten. The track was supported by many key DJs around Europe including Judge Jules who supported the track on his BBC Radio 1 show. Chris then decided to take Bellatrax to the next level and produce the first single 'I Can’t Help Myself'. The record became an international hit with support DJs and spent 3 consecutive weeks on No.1 of the US Dance Charts and was signed worldwide by Oxyd Italy, Nervous Records US, Spinnin Benelux, Blanco y Negro Spain and more. It was remixed by Laidback Luke, Sunfreakz and Henry John Morgan - but really, it's only the Jason Rooney Remix that cuts the mustard.

Lyrics:

Demet Akalın - Zirve (2010)

Here is to recommend the album 'Zirve' of Turkish Model-come-Pop-Diva Demet Akalın, one of the most famous singers in Turkey.
Like me, vintage 1972, her songs, mostly become summer hits and usually include lyrics about broken relationships, fights and being stronger afterwards. She became famous a decade ago having a relationship with the famous basketball player Ibrahim Kutluay. They broke up and she started her music career with her hit single 'Senin Anan Güzel Mi' and became popular with the hit album 'Unuttum'.
Several albums followed, which all received not only crtical acclaim, but were also hugely successful, with Demet picking up Best Song Award in Kral TV Music Awards 2005, the most prestigious music award in Turkey (similar to the Brits or the Grammys), the Altın Kelebek and MÜYAP Golden Record.
Having been liking her for years, I picked up her album Zirve on holidays last year - her best album yet. Here three tracks which became my favourites for months.

Lyrics:

In the day
In the night
Say it right
Say it all
You either got it
Or you don't
You either stand or you fall
When your will is broken
When it slips from your hand
When there's no time for joking
There's a hole in the plan

Oh you don't mean nothing at all to me
No you don't mean nothing at all to me
But you got what it takes to set me free
Oh you could mean everything to me

I can't say that I'm not lost and at fault
I can't say that I don't love the light and the dark
I can't say that I don't know that I am alive
And all of what I feel I could show
You tonight you tonight

Oh you don't mean nothing at all to me
No you don't mean nothing at all to me
But you got what it takes to set me free
Oh you could mean everything to me

From my hands I could give you
Something that I made
From my mouth I could sing you another brick that I laid
From my body I could show you a place God knows
You should know the space is holy
Do you really want to go?

Happy 50th Birthday Whitney Houston!

Dear Whitney,

Happy 50th Birthday Darling! It's barely a year and a half ago that you left us alone down here; and let me tell you, you're still sorely missed although it's gone a bit quiet since. But on you birthday I hope you're having a party 'up there'. Let them spoil you rotten. You deserve it!

Made By Monkeys - I Try - Rauhofer Roxy Mix (2003)

Made By Monkeys might seem like a weird stage name to record under, but the duo of Astrochimp and M Keys has the musical chops to call themselves whatever they like and get away with it. Both met at school at a very early age and have been producing music ever since. Astrochimp handles the drum programming, mixing and engineering and M Keys is the keyboard prodigy who wrote his first composition at the age of five.
'I Try' was their first foray into the world of dance music that accounts for the truly fresh take on club music they have devised. The track debuted at US(Dance)#1 in May of 2003 and continued to chart on the top 50 for 26 weeks, making it the longest charting track of the year for club play. 'I Try' was heavily supported by international DJs like Paul Oakenfold, Sasha & Digweed, Pete Tong and Steve Lawler. The track was introduced by Peter Rauhofer on Live@Roxy2 CD (where I pricked up my ears) and was featured on Ministry Of Sound Annual 2004. The Monkeys have a live explosive performance much like Daft Punk, and the Chemical Brothers that must be seen.

Made By Monkeys - I Try - Peter Rauhofer Roxy Mix (2003)

Lyrics:

Every second passes without me releasing all the thoughts... Let you go...
Every time I close my eyes, I see your face and I feel so... Why would you go?

And I Try... To win you over
And I Try... To make you stay
And I Try... To make you love me; God, I try!

Is that someone else making you happy; Something that I couldn't do!
I hope is that you are happy, cause I'm tired trying my all with you!

And I Try... To win you over!
And I Try... To make you stay!
And I Try... To make you love me

And I try
Yes I try
And I try
And I try
God I try

Everybody knows that why is a disease
So let's all change our ways together
We dream of the world
let's keep up the faith
There's a better place for you and me

There's a better place for you and me

So look at the sea,
it's dark and blue
The sun is always shining
for me and you
Never asking ??? together we will fly
It's time to solve this mystery
Pain, pain, crying in the rain
Everybody knows that why is not a game

It's a cruel, cruel world to face on your own
A heavy cross to carry along
The lights are on but everyone's gone
And it's cruel
It's a funny way to make ends meet
When the lights are out on every street
It feels alright but never complete
Without joy

I checked you
If it's already been done, undo it
It takes two
It's up to me and you to prove it

On the rainy nights, even the coldest days
You're moments ago but seconds away
The principal of nature, it's true but
It's a cruel world

We can play it safe or play it cool
Follow the leader or make up all the rules
Whatever you want, the choice is yours
So choose

I checked you
If it's already been done, undo it
It takes two
It's up to me and you to prove it

I trust you
It's already been done, undo it
It takes two
It's up to me and you to prove it

I checked you
If it's already been done, undo it
It takes two
It's up to me and you to prove it

Agnes - Release Me (2008)

Absolutely shocked that when this one has hit us is already 5 - yes F-I-V-E !!!, years ago! Time does fly! Although it didn't hit the commercial shelves until more than a year later, it did simmer underground for a while. Probably waiting to get the Cahill treatment, while finally made it to UK release, while the rest of Europe got treated to a rather wet flanel of the track. Love it! Love it! Love it! Interestingly, the Radio and the Club version had different videos made for Agnes Carlsson's 'Release Me'.

Lyrics:

Release me
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why am I with you now
I say release me
'Cause I'm not able to
Convince myself
That I'm better off without you

Yeah, it's perfectly clear
That it's not what you need
I tell you that I don't care
But I don't want to
Anything that you say
I hear myself agree
And I don't recognize
What I've turned into

I don't know why I want you so
'Cause I don't need the heart break
I don't know what love addictive hold
You have on me I can't shake
No, I'm not in control
So let me go

Release me
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why do I keep coming back
I say release me
'Cause I'm not able to
Convince myself
That I'm better off without you

I could sleep by myself
you would burn me alive
Find me somebody else
But I don't want to
Try to leave out the love
That goes against the grain
But I can rationalize it
If I have to

I don't know why I want you so
'Cause I don't need the heart break
I don't know what addictive hold
You have on me I can't shake
No, I'm not in control
So let me go

Release me
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why do I keep coming back
I say release me
'Cause I'm not able to
Convince myself
That I'm better off without you

Im not in control, so let me go
Release me
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why do I keep coming back
I say release me
'Cause I'm not able to
Convince myself
That I'm better off without you

Release me
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why do I keep coming back

The Underdog Project - Summer Jam (2000,'03 &'10)

The Underdog Project has four members: Vic Krishna, Craig Smart (both vocals), DJ Frank (remixes) and AJ Duncan (keyboards). They formed when Vic was visiting Germany and had a jam session with his fellow-Canadian Craig, which went well, so they started recording - mostly demo tapes, but also full-fledged tracks.

The band's most popular track, 'Summer Jam' was one of the biggest pop hits in Europe. At one point, the original released in Germany in November 2000, was on the rotation list of every pop radio station in the country. It also received much attention in the UK and the US, where it was released the year after. MTV Germany and VIVA, a local rival music TV channel at the time, both supported the video, adding even more exposure. The biggest dance radio station in New York City, WKTU, also expressed support for the record and added it to their playlist, as well as market leader Power 96 in Miami.

The track was re-released several times, and features on pretty much every Summer Song Compilation there is.
Most notable was the 2003 version versus the Sunclub, which reached #1 the Dutch and Belgian charts, as well as climbing into the Top20 of several other countries.

Lyrics:

This ain't nothin' but a summer jam
Bronze skin and cinnamon tans whoa
This ain't nothin' but a summer jam
We're gonna party as much as we can
Hey, oh, hey
Summer jam alright
Hey, oh, hey

Tonight hotties wearin' Prada skirts
Real tight temperature is risin'
Feelin' real hot in the heat of the night

Midnight the party won't stop, until' the mornin' light
I'm skopin' out the hotties with the light eyes
Be with me tonight

Can't get you outta my mind
I can't lie
'Cause a girl like you is so hard to find
I'm waiting for the day to make you mine
'Cause I can't take it

This ain't nothin' but a summer jam
Bronze skin and cinnamon tans whoa
This ain't nothin' but a summer jam
We're gonna party as much as we can
Hey, oh, hey
Summer jam alright
Hey, oh, hey

Moonlight cruisin' down the boulevard
Strobe lights watchin' you your body's tight
Alright looking kinda freaky to me

Can't get you out of my mind
I can't lie
'Cause a girl like you is so hard to find
I'm waitin' for the day to make you mine
'Cause I can't take it

This ain't nothin' but a summer jam
Brown skin and cinnamon tans whoa
This ain't nothin' but a summer jam
We're gonna party as much as we can
Hey, oh, hey
Summer jam alright
Hey, oh, hey

Ever wondered what a Narcotic Thrust is? Fear not, it's not something spectacularly sinister or sexual, it is, in fact an anagram of Stuart Crichton, one half of the British dance music duo. Stuart and Andy Morris met in 1996 to produce 'Funky Acid Baby', which was petty much ignored.

Their breakthrough came with the track 'Safe From Harm', for which they hired Yvonne John Lewis on the vocals. 'Safe From Harm' is completely meaningful to the people on the dance floor and carries a captivating voice, it's a peak hour track yet not bangin'. Deep, groovy and driving bass line, with vocals and strings, and a trippy overall feeling, this track is almost the definition of 'Progressive House'. The difference between the several mixes is really subtle; the original being the 'flattest' one; the others nicely emphasize the 'housy' aspects. It went on to become my Tune of the Year 2002.

The duo also get heavily involved in remixing. 'Suffer Well' by Depeche Mode is a brilliant example.

Lyrics:

Know I’ve done wrong, left your heart torn
Is that what devils do?
Took you so long, where only fools gone
I shook the angel in you!
Now I’m rising from the crowd
Rising up to you!
Feel with all the strength I found
There's nothing I can’t do!

I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?

It’s unforgivable,
I stole and burnt your soul
Is that what demons do, hey?
They rule the worst in me
Destroy everything,
They blame on angels like you, hey!
Now I’m rising from the crowd
Rising up to you!
Filled with all the strength I found
There's nothing I can’t do!

I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
Uh, uh, uh, uh!
Oh, oh!

Told you once again,
Do this again, do this again, oh!
I told you once again,
Do this again, do this again, oh, oh!

I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?
I need to know now, know now
Can you love me again?

Calvin Harris & Ayah Marar - Thinking About You (2013)

Calvin Harris feat. Ayah Marar - Thinking About You (2013)

Lyrics:

If I told you, that this couldn't get better baby
And your heartbeat, it lets me know you feel the same.
I can hold you, keep you safe until you fall asleep.
Never worried, cause I can give you what you need.

Now everything I do, is all for loving you.
Its not something that we're used to.
No other way to say, I need you every day.
And now I'm gonna change my ways.
And it's a part of you, I never wanna lose.
I'll do anything you want me to.
Like any other day, I know I'll find a way-aa-aay.
And if ever I'm alone you'll say.

I'll be thinking about you.
I'll be thinking about you.
I'll be thinking about you.
I'll be thinking about you.
I'll be thinking about you.
I'll be thinking about you.
I'll be thinking about you.
I'll be thinking about you.

In a moment, I know that everything could change.
And I know that, my life would never be the same.
You're the only way that's making sense to me.
When I close my eyes, you're the one, I see.
There's no other way I could ever be ... Without you babe.

Now everything I do, is all for loving you.
Its not something that we're used to.
No other way to say, I need you everyday.
