Travis - Baby One More Time
Lyrics:
Oh baby baby
Oh baby baby
Oh baby baby
Oh baby baby
How was I supposed to know
That somethin' wasn't right here
Oh baby baby
I shouldn't have let you go
And now you're right out of site yeah
Show me
How you want it to be
Tell me baby
'Cause I need to know now
Oh because
My loneliness
Is killing me (and I)
I must confess
I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time.
Oh baby baby
A reason I breathe is you
Boy you've got me blinded
Oh baby baby
There's nothin' that I wouldn't do
That's not the way I planned it
Show me
How you want it to be
Tell me baby
'Cause I need to know now
Oh because
My loneliness
Is killing me (and I)
I must confess
I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time.
Oh baby baby
(A ooooooooo)
Oh baby baby
(A yeah yeah)
Oh baby baby
How was I supposed to know
Oh baby baby
I shouldn't have let you go
I must confess
That my loneliness
Is killing me now-
Don't you know I still believe
That you will be here
And give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time.
My loneliness
Is killing me (and I)
I must confess
I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time.
I must confess
(My loneliness)
That my loneliness
(Is killing me)
Is killing me now
(I must confess)
Don't you know I still believe
(I still believe)
That you will be here
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
And give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time.
Madcon - Glow (Eurovision Final 2010)
Yosef Wolde-Mariam and Tshawe Baqwa are Madcon, a Norwegian Hip-Hop duo formed in 1992. Sixteen years later they would storm to international fame with their breakthrough 'Beggin'. At the heigth of their popularity it only seemed logical for them to entertain at one, if not the biggest international music contest there is: Eurovision was brought to Oslo a year earlier and in 2010 it was the turn of the city by the fjord to host the television event that is followed not only in Europe but as far flung as Australia and New Zealand.
Madcon staged one of the most memorable interval acts of Eurovision. Liking the song anyway, they arranged the world's biggest 'Flashmob', a spine-tingling experience. Enjoy.

My heart beats to your song
A melody sent from God
I can't breath when you're gone
Yes I'm deeply in love (Be my valentine)
Every single day of my life (I'm gonna sacrifice)
Night and day, day and night
Today's the day (Tonight's the night)

'Cause today's the day (Tonight's the night)
Imma lay it down (Imma lay it down)
Imma get up so I can't get down (Imma, Imma)
And anywhere I go thunder sound (Imma)
I'm the lord of the underground (Imma, Imma)
Part of the jungle (Imma, Imma)

Lyrics:
Let's dance put on your red shoes and dance the blues
Let's dance to the song
they're playin' on the radio
Let's sway
while color lights up your face
Let's sway
sway through the crowd to an empty space
If you say run, I'll run with you
If you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower
Let's dance for fear
your grace should fall
Let's dance for fear tonight is all
Let's sway you could look into my eyes
Let's sway under the moonlight,
this serious moonlight
If you say run, I'll run with you
If you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower
Let's dance put on your red shoes
and dance the blues
Let's dance to the song
they're playin' on the radio
Let's sway you could look into my eyes
Let's sway under the moonlight,
this serious moonlight
Colton Ford - The Way You Love Me, No One & That's Me
From singer to porn star to singer, Glenn Soukesian, a.k.a. Colton Ford has blazed a unique path to the dance floor:
Born 1962 in Pasadena, Colton got out of high school and his family really tried to dissuade him from getting into music as a profession, so he started going to college. He landed a gig in a dinner theater nightclub with six singers a night perform musicals and contemporary music. Colton got into a jazz quartet and hit the jazz club scene in Los Angeles. He moved to Los Angeles and heard Dawna Montell spinning in a nightclub. Making friends with her, Dawna heard his music and inroduced him to Romey, who has been his manager off and on ever since 1986. At that time, Romey was with Formula One which was Jon St. James' production company, which produced Stacey Q and Louis Louis and they were looking for a male vocalist so Colton got a go at a single called 'The Hardline' in 1986. A year and a half later, he signed to Mighty Productions, owned by Michael O'Hara and Denise Rich. At that time he was working with a producer who was co-producing Frankie Knuckles' second album. Colton started working on an album but there was a conflict of interest with the record label Virgin. They were having a hard time with Colton being white and being the front singer for Frankie Knuckles, He was replaced by Adeva. About four years later he had another deal on the table with Virgin, but Virgin cut back and Colton got shelved. He negotiated a deal with Third Stone, but before the album was finalised, the company folded. Colton's music career was stalling.
At that time he got to know Blake Harper and dating him. Blake was at the top of his game in the porn world and was going to film a scene and to pose for a calendar. His scene partner couldn't get from New York to Palm Springs because of 9/11, so Blake asked if Colton if he wanted to stand in. At the time Colton was in a 9 to 5 job and wasn't content with what he was doing. Bored and stagnant musically, he thought what the hell. Thirty-nine years old and with an opportunity to leave boring corporate America, he created Colton Ford.
But he never really left music and inbetween his porn bookings, he kept composing and trying to move forward musically. In July 2002, both Colton and Blake felt burnt out and we were introduced to Chris Long, who at the time was with Miramax Films. He had heard Colton's music and got him into dance music, knowing that the gay community, who followed him through his porn career, would stay loyal. So it seemed a natural fit for him.

INXS
Didn't he just oooooouze sex?! Wasn't Michael Hutchence probably the most charismatic frontman of any band ever?!
Initially formed as The Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, Australia, Andrew Farriss on guitar/keyboards, Jon Farriss on drums and Tim Farriss on lead guitar are the 'Urgestein' of INXS. For twenty years, they were fronted by Michael Hutchence on lead vocals, whose sultry good looks and commanding stage presence made him the focal point of the band. Initially known for their New Wave/Ska/Pop style, they later developed a harder Rock style.
The origins of the band began with Andrew Farriss convincing his High School classmate, Michael Hutchence, to join his band, Doctor Dolphin. The band contained two other classmates, Kent Kerny and Neil Sanders and a bass player, Garry Beers and Geoff Kennely, from a nearby high school. In 1977, Tim Farriss, Andrew's older brother, invited Andrew, Michael and Garry to join him and his schoolmate Kirk Pengilly.
The parents of the Farriss boys relocated to Perth, Western Australia in 1978 and, as soon as Michael and Andrew finished school, the rest of the band followed. They briefly performed as The Vegetables before returning to Sydney ten months later, where they recorded a set of demos. At a chance meeting in the car park of the Narabeen Antler, Tim was approached by Gary Morris, the manager of Midnight Oil. The band began to regularly support Midnight Oil. Gary Morris advised that a member of the Oils crew had come up with a new name and suggested they change it to INXS, being inspired by English band XTC and Australian jam makers IXL. Gary Morris was a great marketer, and the band thought he also had this idea of them being 'inaccessible'.
But then gary told them that unless they wanted to change their ways and become the world's biggest Christian band, he could no longer manage INXS. He wanted them to write songs about Christ and to promote a drug-and-alcohol-free and no-sex-before-marriage, proper Christian lifestyle. He was very convincing and for a moment they thought they might have done it, but then Gary got on to strange terrain. They thought that would be a bit much – but INXS was a good name. The band's first performance as INXS was on 1 September 1979 at the Oceanview Hotel in Toukley on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia and by the end of 1979, after passing on the Christian band image, they hired Chris Murphy as their manager and continued playing the Oz pub circuit. With the help of Chris Murphy the band had signed a five-album record deal in 1980 with a Sydney independent label, Deluxe Records, run by Michael Browning, former manager of AC/DC.
Deluxe gave them a budget of A$10,000 to record an album, so to keep within the budget they had to record from midnight to dawn, usually after doing one or more performances earlier that night. Their self-titled album INXS was released in October 1980. It included 'Just Keep Walking', which was their first Australian Top40 single. The album eventually went gold (selling over 35,000 units) but it took a number of years to do so. These early records demonstrated their New Wave/Ska/Pop style and were followed by near constant touring with almost 300 shows during 1981 as the band developed their status as a live act. In 1981, they signed Gary Grant as their tour manager, who then became co-manager a year later. Between touring commitments, the band released their third single 'The Loved One', which was a cover of a 1966 song by Australian group The Loved Ones.
INXS toured New Zealand as support act for Cold Chisel. Their band manager Murphy was convinced their future no longer lay with Deluxe Records. RCA (who distributed Deluxe downunder at the time) worked with Rod Woods, who had been promoting Eric Clapton, Split Enz and some of the worlds biggest acts. Ron Woods was crazy about INXS and brought key music people along to their gigs. He encouraged RCA to sign them worldwide. Deluxe in their time had been unable to attract international interest and decided to record a new song 'The One Thing' at their own expense. The track turned out so well that Murphy hired them to produce three more songs. Murphy approached WEA Australia with copies of the song, leading to INXS signing a recording deal in July 1982 with WEA for releases in AUS, SE Asia, Japan & NZ; Atco Records for Atlantic Records in North America & Polygram for Europe & the UK. INXS went on their first US performance in San Diego in March 1983, to a crowd of 24 people. Their first tour was as support for Adam and the Ants, then support for Stray Cats, The Kinks, Hall & Oates and The Go-Go's, as well as Men At Work. Following a performance in Toronto, Canada, the band was approached by producer Nile Rodgers, and in September 1983 recorded 'Original Sin', originally titled 'Brand New Day'.
Although 'Original Sin' was successful in several countries, it was largely ignored in the UK, where INXS was described in NME as a 'depressingly definitive example of excruciating, boring, incredibly unimaginative MTV Rock'. In 1984, INXS toured non-stop, performing across Europe, the UK, the US and Australia and by the end of the year made The Swing, a double platinum album, which at the time, became one of the five biggest albums in the history of Australian music. In March 1985 the band re-entered Sydney's Rhinoceros Studios to record their next album, together with producer Chris Thomas of Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd, The Pretenders and Elton John fame. As the band were finishing the recording sessions, Chris told the band that the album was not good enough and still had no killer track.
INXS started out as a New Wave act, but now gradually moved in a more rock-oriented direction. 'Listen Like Thieves' was released in October 1985. The first US single from the album 'This Time' stalled at US#81 in late 1985, but the next single, 'What You Need', released there in early 1986, became a Top5, bringing INXS their first US success. The single was also a Top20 in Canada, an AUS#2, but only #51 on the UK charts. The British press dismissed the album, with NME calling the band 'INX-cusable' and a reviewer declaring 'Listen Like Thieves' to be a 'complete and utter turkey', while in the US Rolling Stone Magazine wrote 'INXS rocks with passion and seals the deal with a backbeat that'll blackmail your feet'.
In August 1985, they toured ahead of the album's release, touring South America before returning to Melbourne to play for Prince Charles and Princess Diana of Wales at a concert in Australia, which was filmed and later released on home video entitled Living INXS.
n May 1986, the band returned to the United States and over the next six months performed 32 European shows, including support for Queen at their Live at Wembley '86 concert on 12 July. The US's influential Musician magazine calling them 'the best live band in the world'. In August 1987 INXS recorded their album Kick in Sydney and Paris, but Atlantic Records was not happy with the result.
They hated it saying there was no way they could get this music onto radio and that they didn't want to promote it. The CEO of the label told them he'd give them $1 million to go back to Australia and make another album.
Despite Atlantic's protests, Kick was released in October 1987. Funny how life goes sometimes, huh? Sometimes you just have to stick to your guns, because it provided the band with worldwide popularity.
This is the point at which they ended up in my music collection.
More on the remainder of the band's career from their now reached peak until their demise after Michael Hutchence's tragic death in November 1997 tomorrow.

Lyrics:
I'm better
So much better now
I see the light, touch the light,
We're together now
I'm better
So much better now
Look to the skies, give me life
We're together now
We've only just begun
Hypnotised by drums
Until forever comes
You'll find us chasing the sun
They said this day wouldn't come
We refused to run
We've only just begun
You'll find us chasing the sun
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You'll find us chasing the sun
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You'll find us chasing the sun
When the daylight's fading
We're gonna play in the dark
Till it's golden again
And now it feels so amazing
Can't see it coming
And we'll never grow old again
You'll find us chasing the sun
I'm never
I'm never down
Lying here, staring up
And you're looking down
I'm never
I'm never down
Live forever, forever
With you around
We've only just begun
Hypnotised by drums
Until forever comes
You'll find us chasing the sun
They said this day wouldn't come
We refused to run
We've only just begun
You'll find us chasing the sun
The sun, the sun, the sun
You'll find us chasing the sun
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You'll find us chasing the sun
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You'll find us chasing the sun
When the daylight's fading
We're gonna play in the dark
Till it's golden again
And now it feels so amazing
Can't see its coming

Lyrics:
One word breaks the code of silence,
Silence tells me all I need to know.
One Word,
One Word, tells me everything I need to know.
One word driven in to madness,
Madness driven by the depths below.
One Word,
One Word, tells me everything I need to know
It's not the way that I want it,
It's just the way that I need it.
Day after day
It's not the way that I want it,
It's just the way that I need it.
Day after day
One lie tells a thousand stories,
The greatest stories that were ever told.
One Lie,
One Lie, tells the greatest stories ever told.
One man can predict the future,
a future journey in to outer space.
One Man,
One Man, a future journey in to outer space.
It's not the way that I want it,
It's just the way that I need it.
Day after day
It's not the way that I want it,
It's just the way that I need it.
Day after day
It's not the way that I want it,
It's just the way that I need it.
Day after day
It's not the way that I want it,
It's just the way that I need it.

Ké - Strange World (1996)
Singer-songwriter Kevin Grivois, a.k.a. Ké, is known for his powerful, thoughtful music and lyrics, which often reflect his cross-cultural background. Drawing on his distinct falsetto voice, Ké can sometimes leave an androgynous vocal impression. His anti-war anthem 'Strange World' made him cult icon in Europe. It was his debut single and topped radio charts in the UK, Italy and Germany as one of the most requested songs of 1996. Although his music was never released in the USA, a fatastic dance remix of the song, by Junior Vasquez, hit #1 on the US Billboard Dance chart.

Lyrics:
Is this our last chance to say all we have to say
Hiding here inside ourselves we live our lives afraid
So close your eyes and just believe in everything you're told
Cause in this land of great confusion it's easy to give up control
Strange world people talk and tell only lies
Strange world people kill an eye for an eye
Strange world dream one-day we'll see the light
Strange world believe and everything will be alright
And this is the place where everything begins and ends again
No secrets left to find no seven deadly sins
This world that we have wasted has kept us very well
When science now is sacred who will save us from ourselves
Strange world people talk and tell only lies
Strange world people kill an eye for an eye
Strange world dream one-day we'll see the light
Strange world believe and everything will be alright
Strange world people talk sometimes I wonder why
Strange world people kill still no-one hears their cries
Strange world burn these thoughtless tears out of my eyes, eyes
Strange world people talk and tell only lies
Strange world people kill an eye for an eye
Strange world dream one-day we'll see the light, ahh, ahh
Strange world people kill and people hate and
People talk and people kill and still I wonder wonder why, why

Camouflage - Suspicious Love (1993)
Heiko Maile, Marcus Meyn & Oliver Kreyssig, a.k.a. Camouflage, a German synth-pop trio recorded music from 1983. The Great Commandment, 4 years later bought their breakthrough. 'Love is a Shield' followed in 1989, and 1993 they released 'Suspicious Love', personally my favourite track by them. Their influence is blatant. Mark recommends :-)
Lyrics:
Try to tell me something,
try to tell me how it feels,
build it up to beat it down again,
all the things you're hiding,
all the games you play with me,
build it up to beat it down again.
Suspicious love,
froze my natural laugh,
and I need to change,
but something keeps me here.
I feel I know,
I won't let it grow,
and I need to change,
but something keeps me here,
I refuse to crawl.
Got to tell you something,
got to tell you how it feels,
once built up and beaten down again.
Promises once spoken,
all the warmth you gave to me
Leave me always somehow inbetween.
I'd like to see you crawling.

Lyrics:
Thugs and badmen
punks and lifers
locked up interns
pigs and snitches
Rest your weary heads, all is well
You won't be strip-searched, torn up tonight
you won't be cut up, bleeding tonight
you won't be strung out, cold, shaking to your bones
wishing you were anywhere else but right here
So dream on
Thieves and muggers
tricks and hustlers
cheats and traitors
scum and low-lives
Rest your weary heads, all is well
You won't be sad or broken tonight
you won't be squealed on, ripped off tonight
you won't be back-stabbed, double cross, face down
teeth knocked out, lying in a gutter somewhere
So dream on
So dream on
Freaks and junkies
fakes and phonies
drunks and cowards
manic preachers
Rest your weary heads, all is well
You won't be pushed or messed with tonight
you won't be lied to, ruffed up tonight
You won't be insane, paranoid, obsessed
aimlessly wandering through the dark night
So dream on
So dream on
You won't be insane, paranoid, obsessed
aimlessly wandering through the dark night
So dream on
Hande Yener - Romeo (2007)
Makbule Hande Özyener, a.k.a. Hande Yener, caught my radar a few years ago while on holidays in Turkey. The chorus 'Romeo, Romeo, Romeo, Romeo....' was hardly to be overheard, and the catchy chorus certainly hammered its way into my head.
Over the past decade, she has introduced different styles to the ever expanding, Turkish pop music scene. Each one of her albums has managed to generate a lot of interest as well as anticipation due to the different styles, genres and rhythms. Besides the different experiments Hande tackles with music, her looks and image - a bit like Madonna - are also going through a constant change which arguably, blend in well with the sort of music she releases at the time. She was nominated for Best Turkish Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008, only to be beaten by Emre Aydın. Close to 17 million albums sold all over the world.

Lyrics:
Dün hiç yok gibi
Uzak, kasımdan soğuk gibi
Kar yağıyordu yalnızdım
Savaşlar cepheler
Sonra sen geldin
Arasından sislerin
Büyük yakaların vardı
Gösterişliydin
Dedin ki ben Romeo
Gerçek aşkın savaşçısı
Yalnızlık bitti
Sil gözyaşlarını
Kavga etmez sever beni
Romeo Romeo Romeo
Sabaha kadar kucaklar beni
Romeo Romeo Romeo
Hassas tüy gibi
Umut giyindim zırh gibi
Ağlıyordum yalnızdım
Seyirciler sahneler

Elena Paparizou - Treli Kardia (2004)
Soundtrack to my morning. Despite the Greek name and Eurovision participation for the country, Elena Paparizou was actually born in Stockholm, Sweden. This one is post-ESC, anno 2004... Treli Kardia - Crazy Heart. or something like that... love the track
Elena Paparizou - Treli Kardia (2004)
Lyrics:

English translation:
With one your stroke that rows
on my body
and I hear your breath
I sigh
I feel my heart
to beat strongly
into the fire
eyes in love that are asking
the burning kiss to mouth
Crazy heart that cannot
resist to sins
and searches it self into the north-wind
and in love's web
With one game i ask you
finish me
into the dark
I search to find a hunter
Into the fantasy
two bodies huged
with turned off lights
feel the need
to ask, to get drunk
over my body
Crazy heart that cannot
resist to sins
and searches it self into the north-wind
and in love's web
With one game i ask you
finish me
into the dark
I search to find a hunter
Crazy heart that cannot
resist to sins
and searches it self into the north-wind
and in love's web
