Lyrics:
Your in control
Pressing pause on my heartbeat
Someone stole all the air
So I can't speak now
I know the chase is on
I feel as though
My time has come
How many times do I fly
Through your head space
Now it's speeding away
From a safe place
Yeah your skin
Your touch the kiss
The rush too much
And here it comes
When your lips touch mine
It's the kiss of life
I know I know
That it's a little bit frightening
We might as well be playing
With lightning
We touch light
Like it's our first time
Oh oh
I know that it's a little bit frightening
We might as well be playing
With lightning now
Oh oh
Oh oh
Just you and me and the
Coats in the back room
Learning things they don't
Teach in classroom
Now, your here
And feel the fear
But everything is all so clear
I've been addicted to you
Since it first hit
Out of control like a surge of electric
Yeah, your skin
Your touch the kiss
The rush too much
And here it comes
When your lips touch mine
It's the kiss of life
I know, I know
That it's a little bit frightening
We might aswell be playing
With lightning
We touch light
Like it's our first time
Oh oh
I know it's a little bit frightening
We might as well be playing
With lightning now
Oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh
Your skin, your touch
The kiss, too much
Your skin, your touch
To kiss, the rush
Your skin, your touch
To kiss, too much
The rush, the rush
The rush, the rush
When your lips touch mine
It's the kiss of life
I know, I know
That it's a little bit frightening
We might aswell be playing
With lightning
We touch light,
Like it's our first time
Oh oh
I know it's a little bit frightening
We might as well be playing
With lightning now
Oh oh
Oh oh
Kool World Productions - In->Vader (1995)
DJ Jon Marc and Dave Aarons from Bedford, England, were Kool World Productions. Not too much is known of them, except perhaps that they must be huge Star Wars fans, because in 1995 they released a track, which should enter the Hall of Fame of dance music.
The vocal sample on the track , 'Invader' is taken from James Earl Jones in the film 'Return of the Jedi'...

Lyrics:
This is the end
Hold your breath and count to ten
Feel the earth move and then
Hear my heart burst again
For this is the end
I’ve drowned and dreamt this moment
So overdue I owe them
Swept away, I’m stolen
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At skyfall
Skyfall is where we start
A thousand miles and poles apart
Where worlds collide and days are dark
You may have my number, you can take my name
But you’ll never have my heart
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At skyfall
Where you go I go
What you see I see
I know I’d never be me
Without the security
Of your loving arms
Keeping me from harm
Put your hand in my hand
And we’ll stand
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At skyfall
Let the sky fall
We will stand tall
At skyfall

Lyrics:
Bangkok, Oriental Setting
But the city don't know what the city is getting
The crème du la crème of the chess world
In a show with everything but Yul Brynner
Time flies – doesn't seem a minute
since the Tirolean spa had the chess boards in it
All changed, don't you know that when you
Play at this level there's no ordinary venue
It's Iceland, or the Philippines, or Hastings
Or …
Or this place!
One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but their pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
And if you're lucky, then the god's a she
I can feel an angel slidin' up to me
One town's very like another
When your head's down over your pieces, brother
It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity
To be looking at the board not looking at the city
Whattaya mean?!
You've seen one crowded, polluted, stinking town
T-girls, warm and sweet (sweet)
Some are set up
in the Somerset Maugham suite
Get Thai'd, you're talking to a tourist
Whose every move's among the purest:
"I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine"
One night in Bangkok makes the hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me
Siam's gonna be the witness
To the ultimate test of cerebral fitness
This grips me more than would a muddy old river
Or reclining Buddha
But Thank God I'm only watching the game
Controlling it
I don't see you guys rating
The kind of mate I'm contemplating
I'd let you watch, I would invite you
But the queens we use would not excite you
So, you better go back to your bars,
Your temples, your massage parlors
One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but their pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
A little flesh, a little history
I can feel an angel slidin' up to me
One night in Bangkok makes the hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

Lyrics:
I've crossed the deserts for miles
Swam water for time
Searching places to find
A piece of something to call mine
(I'm coming)
A piece of something to call mine
(I'm coming)
(I'm coming)
Coming closer to you
Went along many moors
Walked through many doors
The place where I wanna be
Is the place I can call mine
(I'm coming)
Is the place I can call mine
(I'm coming)
(I'm coming)
Coming closer to you
I'm moving
I'm coming
Can you hear, what I hear
It's calling you my dear
Out of reach
(Take me to my beach)
I can hear it, calling you
I'm coming not drowning
Swimming closer to you
Never been here before
I been tricked out I'm sure
I'm searching for more
I've got that something that's all mine
I've got that something that's all mine
Take me somewhere I can breathe
I've got so much to see
This is where I wanna be
In a place I can call mine
In a place I can call mine
I'm moving
I'm coming
Can you hear, what I hear
It's calling you my dear
Out of reach
(Take me to my beach)
I can hear it, calling you
I'm coming not drowning
Swimming closer to you
Moving, coming
Can you hear what I hear?
(Hear it out of reach)
I hear it calling you
Swimming closer to you
Many faces I have seen
Many places I have been
Walked the deserts, swam the shores
(Coming closer to you)
Many faces I have known
Many way in which I've grown
Moving closer on my own
(Coming closer to you)
I move it
I feel it
I'm coming
Not drowning
I move it
I feel it
I'm coming
Not drowning
I'm moving
I'm coming
Can you hear, what I hear

Hande Yener - Romeo (2007)
Makbule Hande Özyener, a.k.a. Hande Yener, caught my radar a few years ago while on holidays in Turkey. The chorus 'Romeo, Romeo, Romeo, Romeo....' was hardly to be overheard, and the catchy chorus certainly hammered its way into my head.
Over the past decade, she has introduced different styles to the ever expanding, Turkish pop music scene. Each one of her albums has managed to generate a lot of interest as well as anticipation due to the different styles, genres and rhythms. Besides the different experiments Hande tackles with music, her looks and image - a bit like Madonna - are also going through a constant change which arguably, blend in well with the sort of music she releases at the time. She was nominated for Best Turkish Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008, only to be beaten by Emre Aydın. Close to 17 million albums sold all over the world.

Lyrics:
Dün hiç yok gibi
Uzak, kasımdan soğuk gibi
Kar yağıyordu yalnızdım
Savaşlar cepheler
Sonra sen geldin
Arasından sislerin
Büyük yakaların vardı
Gösterişliydin
Dedin ki ben Romeo
Gerçek aşkın savaşçısı
Yalnızlık bitti
Sil gözyaşlarını
Kavga etmez sever beni
Romeo Romeo Romeo
Sabaha kadar kucaklar beni
Romeo Romeo Romeo
Hassas tüy gibi
Umut giyindim zırh gibi
Ağlıyordum yalnızdım
Seyirciler sahneler
Çok Teşekkürler Arkadaşlar
English translation:
Like yesterday doesn't exist at all
Far,like colder than November
It was snowing I was alone
Wars fronts
Later you came
From between the fogs
You had big collars
You were showy
You said that "I am Romeo"
The fighter of the real love
Loneliness ended
Erase your tears
He doesn't fight he loves me
Romeo Romeo Romeo
He embraces me until the morning
Romeo Romeo Romeo
Like a sensitive quill
I wore hope like an armor
I was crying I was alone

Lyrics:
Harcadım, hırpaladım çok
Çok zarar verdim
Beni affet
İnsan
Tuhaf ne hoyrat
Ne şaheser ve nasıl ilkel hayret
Kibir bir canavar gibi bekliyor pusuda
Tıpkı bir volkan gibi uykusu da
Kalbini kurban veriyor
Sen aşkın talibi, o galibi
Olmaya tutkun yok korkusu da
Ki tek bir hayat var, biliyor
Yan yan yan yanmam lazım
Daha yol almam lazım
Kendimden caymam lazım
Zor
English translation:
Arrogance
I used up , ill-treated so much
Damaged too much
Forgive me
Human. Weird, how vulgar
What a masterpiece and how primitive
What a suprise
Arrogance is waiting like a monster in ambush
Also its sleep is just like a volcano
Giving its heart as a victim
You are addicted to being desirous of love and it is to being the winner
It has no fear since it knows there is a single life
I need to burn , burn (since arrogance is a volcano and we are its victims)
I need to proceed more
I need to wangle out of myself, hard to do

Lyrics>
Born down in a dead man town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up
Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the U.S.A...
I was born in the u.s.a., born in the U.S.A...
Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man
Born in the U.S.A...
Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man said son if it was up to me
Went down to see my v.a. man
He said son, don't you understand
I had a brother at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone
He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now
Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run aint got nowhere to go
Born in the U.S.A..., I was born in the U.S.A...
Born in the U.S.A...., I'm a long gone daddy in the U.S.A...
Born in the U.S.A...., born in the U.S.A...
Born in the U.S.A..., I'm a cool rocking daddy in the U.S.A...
O T Quartet - Hold That Sucker Down (1994)
Just how much classic dance can you get???!
Rowland Constantine O'Malley Armstrong, a.k.a. Rollo, was born in London to an Irish publisher and English poet. In 1992 he made his first record with Chelmsford DJ Francis Wright, a.k.a. Felix. 'Don’t U Want Me' went on to sell two and a half million copies, allowing him to give up his day job as a gardener and make music.
In 1994 he teamed up with Colette to record one of the - in my opinion - most classic club tunes there is. Released under the synonym of O.T. Quartet 'Hold That Sucker Down'. I experienced it hitting the London gay clubs first in early 1994: One late spring saturday night at Heaven it practically whipped the nocturnal congregtion into a frenzy - including myself.
Crossing over from Underground to UK Mainstream, the tune was re-released several times: 1994, 1995 and in 2000. The track has also been covered numerous times (but never nearly reached the original!); amongst a few, by the legendary French DJ David Vendetta and Jerome Isma-Ae. But my favourite cover comes courtesy Caater, a Euro-Dance duo of Kalle Kukk and Markku Tiidumaa from Tallinn, Estonia.
...oh... - to come back to Rollo: in 1996 he teamed up with Sister Bliss, Maxi Jazz and Jamie Catto to form the electronic act Faithless. 'Insomnia', 'God is a DJ' and 'We Come One' followed. Faithless have released 6 studio albums and sold over 10 million records! Rollo and Sister Bliss became one of the most sought after remix teams in the world, working with the likes of U2, Björk, Robbie Williams, Suede, Donna Summer, Paul Van Dyk and Roxy Music.
Rollo founded Cheeky Records in 1996 to release Faithless and then Dido. The label was eventually sold to Sony BMG with the huge success of Dido (who Rollo produces and co-writes with). She went on to have what are now the 2nd and 4th biggest selling albums from 2000 to 2008.
These records have now sold in excess of 24 million copies.
And without further ado, I give you: Hold That Sucker Down' :-)

Donna Giles - And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going (1994)
In 1994, Donna Giles recorded a track for Ore Records, which, at the time, swept the nations dancefloors in the UK by storm. Ever since, her version of the song has since grown into, what some (incl. my own humble self)may describe as a club classic.
To me, it is one song of a few which I treasure closely - even owning it still on 12" vivyl - because, like O.T. Quartet's 'Hold That Sucker Down', it is a fond part of my 1993/94 clubbing 'soundtrack' memories.
Cover of the 1994 Release
Following a strong response on the gay scene, Ore Records first released the single in August '94. Due to the then more-or-less limited audience, it reached #43 in the UK singles charts that year. The track then 'crossed over' to a wider clubbing audience and kept simmering in the straight 'underground' for the entire following year.
Cover of the 1996 Release
February 1996 saw the second release of the song, this time with video - enjoy below - when it managed to climb to #27.
'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going' was originally written by Henry Krieger, with lyrics by Tom Eyen, for the Broadway musical 'Dreamgirls'. In the context of the musical it is sung by the character Effie White, a singer with the girl group The Dreams, to her manager, Curtis Taylor Jr., whose romantic and professional relationship with Effie is quickly ending. The lyrics describe Effie's love for Curtis, both strongly devoted and defiant. She refuses to let Curtis leave her behind, and boldly proclaims to him, 'I'm staying and you, you, you ... you're gonna love me!'
The song is also the debut single of two women who portrayed Effie. Jennifer Holliday originated the role on Broadway in 1981. The following year Jennier recorded an R&B version of it. Jennifer Hudson portrayed Effie in the 2006 film adaptation of Dreamgirls, winning an Oscar for the role. Her version became a Top20 R&B single, and a number-one dance hit in the US.

A wonderful example when a dance remix of a classic original actually does work nicely. In 2000, Jeremy Healy - Patsy Kensit's Ex - and Amos Pizzey joined forces to cover Fleetwood Mac's 1987 track Big Love. Toni-Ville Henrik Virtanen, a.k.a. Darude, gives the rework the edge :-)

Falco (1957 - 1998)
Hardly anyone knows him by his real name Johann - or Hans - Hölzel , but when you say Falco, then most ears prick up in recognition. Born 19 February 1957 in Vienna, Austria, and died - far too early - just before his 41st birthday in a car crash in the Dominican Republic.
Unbelievable but true: he is the first and only artist to date whose principal language was German to score a number-one hit in the United States - with 'Rock Me Amadeus', even Nena's 99 Red Balloons did not achieve that. He has sold 40 million albums and 20 million singles, which makes him one of the best selling Austrian singers ever.
Falco began to show signs of unusual musical talent very early. As a toddler, he was able to keep time with the drumbeat in songs he heard on the radio. He was given a baby grand piano for his fourth birthday; a year later, his birthday gift was a record player which he used to play music by Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, and the Beatles. At age five, he auditioned for the Vienna Music Academy, where it was confirmed that he had perfect pitch.
He entered the Vienna Music Conservatory in 1977, but left after one semester to 'become a real musician'. For a short time, he lived in West Berlin while singing in a jazz-rock band and exploring the club scene. When he returned to Vienna he decided on his stage name Falco in tribute to the East German ski jumper Falko Weißpflog (he changed one letter to make the name more international).
Falco's first hit was 'Der Kommissar' from the 1982 album Einzelhaft (Soliary Confinement). A German language song about drug consumption that combines rap verses with a sung chorus, Falco's record was a number-one success in many countries but failed to break big in the US. But the song would prove to have a life of its own in two English-language versions: British rock band After the Fire recorded an English cover version, loosely based on Falco's lyrics and also called 'Der Kommissar' (with uh-oh and alles klar Herr Kommissar the only other lyrics held over from the original). This time, the song shot to US#5 (their only major hit there) in 1983, though it failed to crack the UK Top40.
That same year, Laura Branigan recorded a version of the song with new English lyrics under the title 'Deep In The Dark' on her album Branigan 2.
After a second album, Junge Roemer (Young Romans) failed to provide a repeat to his debut single's success outside of Austria and Germany (where the album topped the charts), Falco began to experiment with English lyrics in an effort to broaden his appeal, and chose a new production team. The result would be the most popular album and single of his career: Falco recorded 'Rock Me Amadeus' inspired in part by the Oscar-winning film Amadeus, and the song became a worldwide hit in 1986.
'Jeanny', the third release from his third album Falco 3, was highly controversial when it was released in Germany and the Netherlands, the story of Jeanny was told from the point of view of a rapist and possible murderer. Several DJs and radio stations refused to play the ballad, which was ignored in the U.S., though it became a huge hit in many European countries, and inspired two sequels on later albums.
The following years were somewhat his decline: he went on a World Tour, sang a duet with Brigitte Nielsen, 'Body Next to Body' and released another album, Wiener Blut (Viennese Blood) but it did not get much publicity outside Germany and Austria.
His 1992 comeback attempt, the album Nachtflug (Night Flight) was very successful in the German speaking territories, but failed to chart internationally.
Falco died of severe injuries from a collision with a bus on the road linking the towns of Villa Montellano and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. It was initially reported that the autopsy showed high blood levels of alcohol and cocaine, which was later dismissed. At the time of his death, he was planning a comeback.
He was buried in the Zentralfriedhof (Central Cemetery) in Vienna, Austria.
